“What the hell?” Erik gasped.
I had decided when I was in the shower. The main problem was my virginity – which made my blood tastier, leading to Daniel who had somehow become obsessed with my blood. In turn Erik tried to play the hero – which he didn’t really do well, not now at least. So if I just lost my virginity everything would end well. No vampire taking my blood and no emotions getting mixed up. Maybe I was stupid thinking this would solve the problem, but I could at least try, instead of sitting alone in my room crying.
I bent down and pressed my lips against Erik’s, he was stiff, on his guard. I deliberately let my towel slid open, revealing my body. I kissed him again, trying to make him kiss me back; I tried to slide my tongue into his mouth. There was no respond from Erik.
“Erik…please,” I moaned against his lips. I searched for his eyes, they looked pained…I wonder why.
“Erika…” he murmured softly, frowning, like he didn’t know what to do. I took a deep breath, filling myself with courage and grabbed his hand. I slowly brought it to my breasts, making him caressing them with his hand. I heard him catch his breath. I kissed him a third time, finally getting a respond. I deepened the kiss, opening my mouth, inviting his tongue. But the idiot turned his head away, am I that bad at kissing?
With my hurt pride I straightened up and covered myself with the towel. Still straddling Erik, I sighed. Just when I was about to get up, Erik put his hands on my thighs.
“I’m sorry Erika,” he murmured meeting my eyes. I raised an eyebrow, giving him a don’t-give-me-any-bullshit-now look.
“Explain,” I said matter-of-factly. Erik met my eyes and it seemed like he struggled whether or not he would tell me.
“Okay, but you should get dressed first, it may take a while. I don’t want you catching a cold,” he muttered.
Obeying him I awkwardly got up from him and put on a pair of tights and an over-sized t-shirt. Putting my damp hair in a ponytail I walked out from our closet. Erik sat on his bed, his white tousled hair was even more of a mess after my brave seduction and he was looking at his hands with a deep frown. He was playing with his fingers, a habit he had when he was nervous of feeling stressed. I took a deep breath and walked over to his bed and sat down, smiling at him.
“So, what’s up?” I said, trying to start the conversation.
“Oh, dear…I really shouldn’t tell you this,” he muttered, fumbling with his fingers.
“Tell me!” I urged. “Or I swear I will make you suffer.”
“Fine!” Erik smiled, holding up his hands as in defeat. “Tell me what you know about Midnight Academy.”
“It’s a high school, which our guardian, Alistar Veer, built. So that vampires, who live with us humans, or rather kill for fun, could go to school with us, human teenagers, learning to co-exist. Well, the real reason is to stop the bloodbath, since vampires doesn’t feel remorse after killing tons of people, Alistar thought that if he put as many vampires as humans in Midnight Academy every vampire could have a human consort, of course the consort would receive money from the vampire for the blood. And if death of the consort would happen the vampire would receive a strict punishment from the headmaster, who is Alistar. So if it would work it’s a win-win situation but the vampires have to accept the rules before humans enter the school,” I said. Erik sighed and met my eyes.
“And what about us,” he said quietly, still playing with his fingers.
“Um…we’re supposed to be some sort of guardians who will keep the order in the school, that’s why we receive training from the vampirehunters, so we can kill them” I murmured.
“Right,” Erik mumbled.
I crossed my legs, watching him intently, “Erik, tell me,” I said coldly.
“You know the noble, Daniel Hamilton; he’s a descendant from one of the big noble bloodline. He and his brother Fredric, who also attend Midnight Academy, pretty much rule the whole vampire world. They…no, Daniel got his eyes on you. He wants you as his consort, Alistar is furious,” Erik murmured the frown he had deepened even more.
“I thought you and I couldn’t be consorts,” I said, searching for his eyes.
Erik half smiled, his face looked pained.
“There’s something you’re not telling me,” I gasped. Erik froze, what is he keeping from me?
“Tell me,” I said calmly.
Erik avoided my gaze.
“Tell me, or I’ll go and find Daniel, maybe he will tell me,” I snapped.
Erik grasped my arm in panic, I eyed him skeptically.
“If I tell you, you have to promise you will stay in this room today while we sleep and that you won’t do anything stupid,” Erik sighed.
“Sure, I promise,” I said and relaxed, showing him that I wouldn’t run to Daniel.
“Why I’ve been acting strange these last days is because I recently got to know this from Alistar. I’ve been stupidly trying to take your virginity…because it can save you, okay?” Erik whispered. I didn’t say anything; I tried to hide my embarrassment.
“A few days ago, Alistar told me that Daniel wants you as his consort, because I know you’re a virgin I thought that Daniel only wanted you because of your virgin-blood. But that’s wrong; he also wants your family name. Your real name is Erika Eleanor Andersen; your parents were famous vampirehunters. They slaughtered many vampires, but one of the many vampires they slayed were Daniels father. Of course Daniels wanted revenge and he…he killed your parents before your eyes. And now he…” I started to get up but Erik caught my hands, dragging me down to the bed. He wrapped his arms around me and whispered in my ear.
“I know it’s hard but listen. He wants you as a consort, to play with, to torture, he’s still ridiculously angry about his father, that’s why you have the dreams, he somehow manage to sneak into your mind. And I’m sorry to say this but you being a virgin isn’t helping. You know, your blood being tastier than ‘normal’ blood isn’t stopping him from emptying you like a bag of blood. That’s why I’ve been doing some dumb things these last days,” Erik said, tightening his hold on me. “Just…don’t be fooled by his appearance, he’s a nasty vamp.”
“I’m scared,” I said, before I could stop the words, they were out. I felt tears pickle my eyes, I took a deep breath and pushed the tears away and chuckled, slowly wrapping my arms around his waist. It’s not often, but when Erik shows his sweet side I can’t help but fall a little more in love with him. Feeling shocked by all this information I suddenly felt tremendously tired, I yawned and slowly pushed myself away from Erik.
“I’m going to bed, it’s been a long night,” I murmured, getting up from Erik’s bed. He smiled shyly as he met my eyes. I stumbled over to my bed and pulled the cover tightly around me.
“Goodnight,” I mumbled, closing my eyes. I heard Erik shift and then I suddenly felt a pair of lips on my forehead.
“Goodnight,” he whispered.
