Kap 41
Shou

Shou sat next to his father on the lower level next to the king-to-be upon the dais. Amara sat next to him, as far away as she could get from Duran. The king-to-be wore a white jacket with ancient dark gray swirls around the chest. The right side of the jacket was off-sleeve, showing his faded tattoo of a crown that went around his biceps. On the same arm he wore a cloth from his elbows to his fingers; it was from the same fabric as his jacket. Around his neck was a dark blue heavy clothed ribbon. He wore a corset, which baffled Shou, but his father said it was the type for men. The jacket continued down to the dais. He wore matching white striped leggings. The king-to-be was highly intriguing, considering the fact that he was from another nation far away from here. In order for both countries to be in peace, the king and queen offered to wed the children. The king-to-be was slightly dark-skinned with black hair like Shou himself.
The princess (queen-to-be) was the most beautiful of them all, not even could the songs of her beauty justify what he was truly seeing. Her dark brown hair was curled with small white pearls dancing in her hair. She wore a matching gown to those pearls. The gown was puffy and was full-sleeves. The skirt was in layers with the thickest fabric at the end and the lightest on top. The thicker parts were in gold and the lighter in white. It looked like an ocean from beneath. The dress exposed her shoulders and neck, which gave an effect of her status.
The princess’s gown matched with the colors of the banquet hall. The room had divided tables with lots of food and wine on the table. There were singers and jokers too and the people around were talking and laughing. But Shou soon noticed the people on the level above them, following their every movement. “Who are they?” Shou asked quietly to his father.
His father seemed to understand what Shou was talking about but never once looked at that direction. Instead his eyes were upon the people feasting. “They are the guards of the King and Queen” he replied.
“Then shouldn’t they be down here? Wouldn’t that be safer?”
His father gave a vague smile, “They are one of the most elite guards. I would say they are in match with your level, son.”
In match with my level? Shou’s eyebrow flinched, how could that even be possible? For a human-
Shou saw Ayaka standing there at the aisle. His eyes widened and his mouth parted. Who gave her those clothes? Who fixed her so-she’s so beautiful, Shou couldn’t help but thinking. He had already forgotten about the Princess’s looks, she was nothing compared to Ayaka. Suddenly Ayaka drew away and a part of him wanted to hold on to her.
Wait what? Why did I think like that? He thought. And suddenly dismissed that thought once Amara narrowed her eyes at him.
“You look ever so lovely” he said to her.
She smirked, “You are complementing the wrong person.”
His eyebrow flinched; Amara’s eyes were telling him she knew everything, curse that woman, Shou thought slowly.
“Don’t worry. If you are nice, I might as well spare her” she whispered.
Shou gave her a baffled look, “We are on the same team, my lady. There is no way I would wrong you” he started, “Don’t put me on the same likes of Duran” he ended.
Amara gave a faint smile, “What do they call that phrase again? An eye for an eye? Tooth for a tooth?”
Shou smiled back, “Aye”

Hours and hours went by sitting on this damned chair with these damned royal people. He couldn’t handle the boredom of remaining silent half of the time, talking back to Amara and having very vague conversations with his lord father.
Shou sighed.
He looked ahead and found Ayaka. She looked very mature, the way she handled and kept herself. Graceful, Shou corrected himself. Every movement was like a melody to his eyes. He couldn’t help but smile as he remembered how violent she always was and now seeing this completely different woman. His boredom slowly left as he was continuing to observe her. Until his smile turned into a frown.
Who the hell is that guy? She was talking and smiling at the man sitting next to them. He poured her more drinks and she smiled and drank from it. IDIOT! How do you know it isn’t poisoned!? What are they talking about?
“I bet that mysteriously handsome man next to your maid is telling her how extraordinary she is looking” Amara butted in.
Shou bit his lip, he did not have the strength to argue with Amara. So he let this one slide. For now.
“Is your mother a thief? Because I am sure she stole you from Heaven” Amara said in a dark voice, as the man was talking to Ayaka.
Shou rolled his eyes, but as Ayaka started to speak, Shou couldn’t hold back. “You big fat twig faced prick, I’m too good for you so go to somebody else. I belong to the great house of Shou. Who are you?”
Amara chuckled, “Her words doesn’t go well with her facial expression, now doesn’t it? She looks more like she is saying, ‘Why the most handsome Rias from the noble house, it is an honor to hear that from you’”
Shou glared at her, “No. She hates him”
“I didn’t know that when women tend to touch other’s shoulders was a sign of hate?”
His eyes widened and he looked back and saw it. Before his jaw could fall, Amara held his chin. He pulled away from her hand and gave a good glare to Ayaka.
Suddenly their eyes met and Ayaka’s smile dropped. Why is she smiling towards that idiot ugly pig and not towards me?
She turned her head towards Rias and resumed where she had stopped. But every now and then she gave quick glances to Shou. And one of them was a discouraging one. THAT WOMAN.
